Here at The Cambridge Satchel Company, many of our bags are often inspired by nostalgic designs from the past. From the original classic satchel (inspired by the leather school bag our Founder and CEO Julie carried when she was young) to the Poppy bag (inspired by an old doctor’s bag); we like to take beloved classic styles and give them our own spin to make them feel up-to-date again.
Our brand new Conductor’s bag – which takes its inspiration from a vintage bus conductor’s bag – is no exception.
Remembering the sturdy leather bags the conductors would wear on the bus and train journeys she would take with her family when she was young Julie wanted to reinterpret that same design sensibility for the modern day. Designed to hold much more than just bus tickets and loose change, our Conductor’s bag will fit everything the modern woman needs to accompany her on her daily journeys – whether that be a long train commute, or just a quick trip to the shops.
Julie says: “there is something so wonderful about bags that were created for a specific purpose – whether a post-worker’s, conductor’s, or doctor’s bag – bags with character and a destiny, if you will. So often these bags will have interesting compartments and features and facets to their design and personality that make perfect sense within that context, but which don’t deserve to be forgotten once they are no longer needed for the purpose they were destined for.”
To celebrate the launch of the Conductor’s bag, we rounded up some of our friends, staff and mums (our shoots are always a family affair!) to showcase the bag alongside London’s iconic red buses in all their crimson glory. We think you’ll agree that it looks equally stylish on women of all ages, no matter where their day takes them (no bus ticket required).
We hope you love it as much as we do! Shop the new Conductor’s bag here.
