Why Bicester Village is still the go-to destination for Christmas shopping

Cambridge Satchel Rolls Out Metallic Bags For The Holidays

Wait 'til you see all the new shops

Is Bicester Village worth it?

In a word: absolutely. Think lots of your favourite designers and luxury brands, for a fraction of the cost. There is womenswear (Kate Spade, Balenciaga, Jimmy Choo), menswear (Philipp Plein, Lacoste, Paul Smith) homeware (Le Creuset, The White Company) and beauty stores (Charlotte Tilbury, Cowshed), all on one beautiful street in the style of New England.

It’s worth noting that you shouldn’t expect high street prices either, these are still designer items. However, they’re heavily discounted, so it’s well worth it if you were going to buy it anyway. Put it this way, 50% off a Mulberry or Prada handbag is better than paying full price, right?

What’s the vibe?

As mentioned before, this really is as pretty a high street as you could imagine. As well as the inviting stores decked with Christmas wreaths, you can enjoy a special art installation by Bruce Munro while you shop, and the Nikki Tibbles flower displays are pure Instagram gold.

If you’re ready to drop after all that shopping, there are plenty of food vans or cosy restaurants to visit. Our favourites include the Crèperie Angélie (we have no words to describe the Nutella crèpe) and the rustic Farmhouse restaurant and cafe which serves up delicious British seasonal dishes.

Is there anything new this year?

If you were thinking of visiting Bicester Village this year, you’re in luck, because it’s just undergone a massive expansion, with more stores still opening. Here are a few examples to give you a taster:

What about Christmas shopping?

Still have all your Christmas shopping to do? No problem. The newly opened Luke Edward pop-up boutique, The British Collective, is your one-stop shop for the whole family. Designed like an eccentric English country, it’s inspired by Wes Anderson films, Tim Walker photography and the interior designs of David Hicks, John Fowler and Madeleine Castaing. You’ll find yourself relaxing in the colourful sofas long after you’re done buying gifts from the curated collection (Tom Dixon candles, Chinti & Parker jumpers etc).

Where to stay?

Bicester Village is less than a 30 minute drive from Oxford, so it would be a shame not to make a weekend of it. Book yourself into the Weston Manor on the Green, which is is the perfect escape to the countryside. Enjoy a cocktail by a log fire, before feasting on dishes such as broccoli soup infused with stilton, flat fish fillet with lime creamed potato and raw coconut & almond brownie.

After a cosy night in one of the traditional rooms, explore Oxford at your leisure. Perfect Christmas shopping weekend, or what?
